Even slight premature contact points, in the range of a few microns, can cause functional disturbances in the patient (discomfort or pain) and in some cases may even cause difficulty in swallowing. For this reason, it becomes important that control materials accurately represent the contact points. In many cases, the occlusal contact points are small in diameter and can hardly be seen, especially on polished ceramic surfaces.
